Pacific Fund Grant Funding
UNIVERSITY OF THE PACIFIC
DIVISION OF STUDENT LIFE
PROPOSAL FOR PACIFIC FUND GRANT FUNDING 2009-2010
Purpose: To support Pacific Rising Commitment One to innovations and creativity across the University, specifically Strategic Direction 1 and 2:
Expand innovation in academic programs through an ongoing innovation process, support to pedagogy and research and new education and service delivery models.
Enhance University administrative programs and services through innovation and creativity by targeting fundraising, increasing incentives and improving services and programs.
Pacific's Budget Assumptions and Planning Guidelines: Innovations and incentive funds exist to stimulate and support ongoing innovation. Specifically, the purpose of the funding is to establish an incentive fund for academic, co-curricular, and administrative programs. Programs established partly through innovation funds should replenish the fund as appropriate.
Details: Pacific Fund Grants will be awarded each year to Student Life Departments seeking funds that meet the following criteria:
The innovation is:
1. the introduction of a new idea or using something in a new way;
2. a program, service, or collaboration classified as either an "emerging area of distinction" or an "area targeted for improvement and/or development" (refer to attachment 1-A for details regarding the three Student Life Areas of Distinction categories);
3. an idea that is put into practice, which creates change that has value; and
4. a change that results in a positive effect on student learning, service, or organizational performance.
The Process: The grants will be awarded based on an annual competitive proposal and application process. The number and amount of grants will vary each year. Funds unused would be returned at the end of each year to the general campus Pacific Fund. Generally, awards will range from $2,000 to $5,000, but exceptions will be considered.
The Student Life Leadership Team will manage the grant allocation process and be responsible for establishing clear accounting and outcome reporting procedures. An accountability report will be due near the end of the funding year to summarize what was learned and what resulted. It is intended that meetings will be conducted as Innovation Learning Communities with prior and future recipients meeting together to build on each other's ideas.
Budget: $25k allocation to Student Life from the Pacific Fund will be available on an annual basis to support approved one time innovation grants.
