Liaison and Consultative Functions
The director of the John Muir Center serves as a liaison between Pacific and the descendants of John Muir, the Sierra Club and the National Park Service.
The Center consults with non-profit organizations producing John Muir educational materials and works with other organizations and media seeking support related to John Muir.
For example, the John Muir Center and Holt-Atherton Special Collections worked with Global Village Media of New York on the production of a documentary focusing on the life of John Muir.
Funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), "John Muir in the New World" is a two-hour PBS documentary that aired on the series, American Masters. Produced and directed by Catherine Tatge, and written by Leslie Clark (best known for producing "Bill Moyers Reports" and the American Masters special, "Walter Cronkite: Witness to History), this fresh look at the life of Muir promised to be the best ever.
Images from the John Muir Papers were used throughout the production. The program aired in April 2011. You can watch the trailer and learn more about the documentary on the American Masters website.
