Master of Music in Music Education
Master of Music
This path is for candidates who have received an undergraduate degree in Music Education. In general, it includes more coursework in music. It is also possible to pursue this path with additional coursework and student teaching to achieve a Master of Music plus California teaching credential.
Program Schedule
Master of Music in Music Education can be completed in four semesters (fall, spring, fall, spring), but also may be completed in a shorter period with summer work, depending on the electives chosen. The M.Ed. may be done in a year with two summers of work, with the directed teaching units following in the second year. Directed teaching may be done as traditional student teaching (one semester, full-time, with a host teacher, no pay), as an internship if Video Microrehearsal Techniques are taken (one year, full-time, as a contracted teacher, full pay), or as a part-time student teacher if Video Microrehearsal Techniques are taken (one semester, part-time, with host teacher, no pay).

Master's in Music Education Admission Requirements
- Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in Music.
- Candidates must have a GPA of at least 3.0 for the last two years of undergraduate study.
- Candidates must have successfully completed the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test. In cases where a student has earned an exemplary undergraduate grade point average, the GRE examination requirements may be waived by the Music Education program director.
- Credential candidates must apply for and meet the admission procedures and standards of the Credential Program of the School of Education during the first term of attendance.
