Who Gets What and Why?
12:30 Seminar
This is a course in critical thinking and analysis where the subject of social stratification-a system of social forces that structure outcomes-becomes a lens through which opportunity, life expectancy, health, social position, power, and wealth are explored. The influence of social stratification on events such as war, peace, economic expansion/stagnation, employment, and government policy is assessed developing a deeper understanding of the phenomenon and its role within American society. This course expands discussions about the issues of class, race, work, culture, politics, education, citizenship, leadership, and the economy begun in Pacific Seminar I.
