John Stitch Medal: presented to the outstanding graduating senior in Geology. The award is funded by donations from family and friends, and honors the memory of Professor Stitch, who served the students of Pacific from 1946-1965.
Stanley G. Volbrecht Endowed Scholarship: awarded annually to an outstanding student majoring in Geological & Environmental Sciences. The scholarship is funded by donations from faculty and alumni, and honors the memory of Professor Stan Volbrecht, who served the students of Pacific from 1961 to 1990.
Irvin Pasternak Endowed Scholarship: awarded annually to an outstanding student majoring in Geological & Environmental Sciences. The scholarship is funded by donations from geology alumni Jamie Brown ('80) and Bari Pasternak Brown ('79), and honors the memory of Bari's father.
William Christiansen Award: presented to an outstanding graduating senior majoring in Geological & Environmental Sciences. The award is funded by donations from family and friends of Mr. Christiansen and honors his memory. He graduated from Pacific in 1967 with a Geology major and died unexpectedly while pursuing a graduate degree in geology at the University of California at Davis.
Delbert H. Brown Award: presented to a freshman or sophomore Geological & Environmental Sciences student who shows exceptional promise. The award is funded by donations from Eric Brown ('00) and honors the memory of his grandfather.

External Scholarships, Awards & Opportunities
NAGT Scholarships for Field Study: Each year NAGT (National Association of Geosciences Teachers) makes several $500 awards to undergraduate students to facilitate their study of field geoscience. These awards, previously given to students who attend a traditional summer field camp, are now available for students attending field-based courses at any time of year. The intent of the awards is to support students' participation in intensive field courses in any aspect of geoscience (including geophysics, soil science, hydrology, etc.) that focus on students practicing skills of field observation, data collection, analysis and synthesis. Awardees are selected based on the importance of the field experience in meeting their educational and career goals, the quality of the field aspects of the course, and the importance of the financial award in allowing them to participate in the program. In addition, the committee endeavors to select awardees that expand the diversity of people studying geosciences in the field. Please see faculty member Dr. Burmeister for more information.

Cordilleran Section Travel Grants: Each year the Cordilleran Section allocates funds to help defray travel costs for its students who are traveling to the Cordilleran Section Meeting to present papers. Applicants for student travel subsidies must be: (1) first author of a paper or poster, and; (2) presenter of that paper or poster, and (3) GSA (Geological Society of America) members, either as a Student Associate or a Full Member, and (4) Cordilleran Section members at the time of application. Sigma Xi Grants in Aid of Research (GIAR) Program: The Sigma Xi Grants-in-Aid of Research program has been providing undergraduate and graduate students with valuable educational experiences for more than 80 years. By encouraging close working relationships between students and faculty, the program promotes scientific excellence and achievement through hands-on learning. The program awards grants of up to $1,000 to students from all areas of the sciences and engineering. Students use the funding to pay for travel expenses to and from a research site, or for purchase of non-standard laboratory equipment necessary to complete a specific research project.
