Interim Protocols for Ingress and Egress

June 2020

Purpose: As part of social distancing and safe practices, building entrances and exits, hallways and other spaces will be altered to reduce density and bi-directional traffic, following these guidelines.  Users of university spaces should follow these guidelines and other health practices pertaining to movement and sharing of facilities.

Movement in and out of buildings: All faculty, staff and students, as well as university visitors, must wear face coverings when entering and exiting buildings, and while moving in, around and through buildings. Maintain 6 feet of distance from others while moving through buildings if possible. Signs and posters will clearly indicate routes; follow traffic flow indicated by all signage through building entrances, exits, elevators and common areas.

In an Emergency: Exit via the nearest door to your area.

Using Elevators: Most elevators are designated for one rider at a time; use the stairs whenever possible. When using the elevator, wear a face covering and use your elbow, if possible, to press buttons (avoid touching the elevator buttons with exposed hands/fingers). Wash hands or use alcohol-based hand sanitizers upon departing the elevator.

Using Restrooms: Use of multi-stall restrooms will be limited based on size to ensure at least 6 feet of distance between individuals. Wash hands thoroughly after using the restroom to reduce the potential transmission of the virus.

Using Breakrooms: Communal use of breakrooms will be limited based on size to ensure at least 6 feet of distance between individuals. Thus a very small breakroom may only accommodate one person at a time. Wash hands thoroughly and follow cleaning requirements after use of a breakroom or its facilities to reduce the potential transmission of the virus.

Violation(s) of these guidelines by university employees or students may result in the initiation of the appropriate disciplinary process.
