Greg Walters
Greg Walters, a human resources professional with broad experience in higher education, industry and government, joined the University of the Pacific as its new assistant vice president for human resources at University of the Pacific.
In his new role, Walters will work to advance Pacific's human resources management through enhancing the workplace environment, strengthening employee development and diversity, developing a robust recruitment plan, among other important initiatives. Reporting to Ken Mullen, vice president for business and finance, and serving on the president's cabinet, Walters will oversee the university-wide human resource and assessment, training and technology units that will continue to be led by Jane Lewis and Sondra Roeuny.
"I am very pleased that Greg will be joining the Pacific family," said Mullen. "His extensive leadership experience, human resources expertise, and understanding of the higher education sector will be valuable assets to our university."
Walters comes to Pacific from the University of Idaho, where he served as executive director of human resources. Under his leadership, human resources at the university transformed from being largely transactional into a strong supporter of the institution's strategic direction. Walters' experience also includes serving as the assistant manager of human resources at the State of Oregon Employment Department, as assistant vice president for human resources at Lewis & Clark College and in human resources positions at Seattle University and the Metropolitan Building Maintenance company, also in Seattle.
Walters has held numerous roles in the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources, including serving on the national board for five years and as treasurer. He is certified as a senior professional in human resources through the Human Resources Certification Institute. He also has extensive continuing education in human resources and academic administration, with emphases on legal compliance, risk management, strategic planning, change management, communication, leadership development and all technical human resources areas.
