Renowned sports agent Scott Boras ’77, ’82 will be a special guest lecturer in The Art and Science of Negotiation and in Sports Law courses at University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law’s Summer Programs in Salzburg in Austria, July 5–25.

McGeorge School of Law is a pioneer in overseas summer law school programs, having started the Salzburg program in 1974. It also offers undergraduates from any accredited university or four-year college access to notable scholars and courses that are not available through any other institution. The Art and Science of Negotiation will help students identify strengths and weaknesses in their negotiating style by examining the theoretical, ethical and practical skills of negotiating. Students enrolled in the program this summer will hear about deal-making from Boras, dubbed the “Most Powerful Sports Agent in the World” by Forbes.

Boras is the founder and president of Boras Corporation, a sports agency based in Newport Beach dedicated to representing baseball’s top athletes. Boras played with the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs in the ’70s and later launched his career as a sports agent after briefly practicing medical litigation. He is a master of the record-breaking contract, has nearly 40 years of experience and has represented hundreds of Major League Baseball players, including Alex Rodriguez, Gerrit Cole and Stephen Strasburg.

McGeorge Interim Dean Michael Colatrella said Boras is considered the most successful sports agent because of his skill in brokering lucrative contracts for his clients, including Alex Rodriguez’s $252 million, multi-year contract in 2000.

“This will be an exciting experience for our law students and undergraduates hearing from McGeorge alumnus Scott Boras, the top super-agent in sports,” Colatrella said. “You don’t have to be a sports fan to appreciate the value of an educational dialogue with a person working at the pinnacle of the business-side of sports.”

Boras earned degrees from Pacific’s Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy in 1977 and McGeorge School of Law in 1982, and was an outfielder and captain of Pacific's baseball team. He was named Alumnus of the Year at McGeorge in 2002. In 2005, he was inducted into the Pacific Athletics Hall of Fame.

The summer program also will feature additional guest lectures by experts in negotiations and sports law.
