Presidential search update: Committee is reviewing and identifying candidates
August 27, 2019
Dear students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors and community members,
There has been much activity in the presidential search since my July update, as we are in the core recruiting phase. Here is a summary and the upcoming timeline:
- Over the summer we worked diligently to develop a sizeable pool of candidates, and we continue discussions with additional potential candidates whom we expect will formalize their interest.
- In mid-August, the Presidential Search Advisory Committee (PSAC) read through the candidates' submissions and then met later in the month to discuss and begin to identify the most highly qualified candidates.
- The PSAC will meet again in mid-September to do a final review of candidates' materials and identify a short list of individuals to interview in person with the PSAC in late September.
- Following the interviews, the PSAC will identify 3–4 candidates (unranked) to present to the full Board of Regents for consideration.
- Finalists will be interviewed by the full board in late October. I anticipate our next president will be announced to the community by December, and will start on July 1, 2020.
The PSAC representatives have invested significant time and will continue to be actively engaged before their service is complete. Please join me in thanking them for the commitment they are making on behalf of the Pacific community to ensure a bright future for our university. They are bound to strict confidentiality about their work and each of them takes seriously the role they have in this historic moment.
I invite you to continue to offer suggestions or ask questions via the email form that routes directly to the search firm. The email form will remain available throughout the search process should you want to communicate directly to the PSAC. Also, you may share your thoughts on the challenges and opportunities you see facing our next president, as well as qualities you would like to see in the next president, by filling out the survey posted on the presidential search website. I also want to remind you that updates are posted on the presidential search website.
I will update you again after the PSAC's late September meeting.
Sincerely,
Norman Allen ’88, ’94
Chair, Presidential Search Advisory Committee
Board of Regents
