Professional Translator

The Professional Translator training program prepares you to translate documents into English and into Spanish. It also prepares you to sit for the American Translators Association (ATA) certification exam. You will acquire the translation skills needed to properly transfer the written message into the opposite language without any language interference. You will learn how to localize the transfer into the corresponding language without any syntactical interferences.
You will learn how to properly transfer written messages from English into Spanish and from Spanish into English, eliminating the possible interferences that either change the meaning of the written message or make it awkward in terms of the grammatical structure and vocabulary selection.

Upon completion of this program, students will know the following:

  • Translation skills into both English and Spanish
  • Proper transfer of grammatical structures into both English and Spanish
  • Identification of potential interferences in the original message and a method of filtering the interferences so that the written message is localized and properly structured
  • Understanding of cross-cultural differences that can have an impact on the transfer of the written message
  • Proper grammatical and lexical cohesion
  • Transfer of spoken interactions

Course Details

Typical translations made by translators who are not formally trained in the field tend to be full of interferences, such as false cognates and improper grammatical structures, which make the transfer of the message inaccurate and awkward into the target language. The Professional Translator training program concentrates in eliminating these interferences to make the transfer of the message accurate and localized to a target country. This program provides interactive activities where you will be challenged with original written messages that require knowledge of the various techniques covered in the program. These techniques filter the original interferences to make sure that the message in the target language is accurate and grammatically correct. This program is entirely online and is completed at your own pace. When you register, you receive nine (9) months to complete this program.
