Pacific welcomes new executive director of safety and security

Jul 3, 2019

Rhonda Bryant, acting vice president for Student Life, today announced Grant Bedford as University of the Pacific's new Executive Director of Safety and Security, effective July 1. Grant reports to the vice president for Student Life and leads the 50-member Department of Public Safety, which provides security, public safety, crisis management and emergency services on Pacific's three campuses, including central dispatch and the STRIPE student transport and escort service on the Stockton Campus. Grant has 22 years of law enforcement experience, most recently as a lieutenant with the Stockton Police Department. In that role, he often collaborated with public safety. Pacific is one of only two private universities in California whose officers have full police officer authority.

Grant has completed Clery Act and Title IX training and has experience in strategic planning, internal affairs investigations, and personnel and training. He holds a master's degree in criminal justice from National University and recently graduated from the California Police Officers Standards and Training Command College with his certificate in law enforcement command.

Bryant thanks the members of the search committee, chaired by Assistant Vice President for Student Life Lynn King, and the university community for participating in this important process.

Members of the university community were invited to attend a badge-pinning ceremony July 3 to swear in Grant as chief of police for University of the Pacific and welcome him to Pacific.
