Board of Regents Update | April 2019
Highlights from each Board of Regents meeting will be reported in the Pacific Insider to inform the campus community of the board's actions and major discussions. The board plays an important role as the governing body of the university, responsible for the quality and integrity of the education provided to students and the financial sustainability of the university. The chair and chair-elect of the Academic Council, the president and president-elect of the Pacific Alumni Association and the president and vice president of the Associated Students of the University of the Pacific are recognized as non-voting liaison representatives to the board and provide a report at each meeting.
Major highlights from the April 25-26, 2019 meeting:
New health school and graduate programs approved The Board of Regents approved the formation of a new School of Integrated Health Professions and use of the Strategic Investment Fund to launch its three inaugural programs: Master of Science in Nursing, Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition and Master of Social Work. Gladys L. Benerd School of Education and University College merger approved
The Board of Regents approved the merger of the Gladys L. Benerd School of Education and University College to form a new school focused on innovative educational programs with flexible pricing and delivery methods, including hybrid and online programs for working adults. University College Dean Patricia Campbell will serve as the dean and Linda Webster, interim dean for the Gladys L. Benerd School of Education, will serve as senior associate dean. More...
Presidential Search Update
The members of the presidential search committee, chaired by Regent Norman Allen '88, '94, have been selected and a search website is launching soon. The search firm's survey is still open for members of the university community to provide confidential feedback. Look for more information coming soon.
Board selects new officers
The Board of Regents selected its new slate of officers FY20, which begins July 1. Continuing in their same roles are Chair Kevin Huber, Treasurer Evan Dreyfuss and Secretary Andrea Lynn Hoch. Norman Allen is the board's new vice chair. He will replace Rick Fleming, who is stepping out of this role due to multiple commitments but remains a regent.
Student Investment Fund presentation
The Eberhardt Student Investment Fund (SIF) made its annual report to the board. The fund is completely student-managed and provides students hands-on analysis and portfolio management experience. It routinely outperforms market indices, and its current value exceeds $3 million, making it one of the largest in the West. A portion of the fund's earnings, totaling just over $1 million to date, are contributed back to the university to support designated programs.
