Following up with the Pacific community | December 12, 2018

December 12, 2018

Dear Pacific faculty, staff and students,

I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season, and that our faculty, staff and students are ending the semester with great success. I wanted to update you on my November 13 letter to the community. I committed to having discussions with the university community before the Board of Regents provides a formal response to the results of the faculty vote on the resolution of no confidence in the president. Over the past several weeks, Regents Corwin Harper, Norman Allen and I have met with the following groups:

  • Members of the Staff Advisory Council leadership.
  • The current chair, incoming chair, and two past chairs of the Academic Council.
  • Student leadership representing the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of ASuop.
  • Faculty, staff, alumni and Foundation Board members from the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry.
  • San Francisco campus director and representatives of the other San Francisco (non-Dugoni) programs.
  • The Sacramento campus director, dean of the McGeorge School of Law, directors of the Physician Assistant program.
  • Sacramento faculty representing McGeorge, Data Science and the Physician Assistant program.

We also have upcoming meetings scheduled with the Alumni Association Board representatives, additional Academic Council meetings, and with some of the representatives of the previous list of constituents that were unable to make the original meeting.

I'd like to thank everyone who has attended these meetings for their thoughtfulness and candor throughout these discussions. It is truly impressive to see the passion that we all share for this university. I would also like to thank all of you for your patience as we continue to listen to a wide variety of voices prior to formally responding to the faculty and ASuop resolutions.

I expect that our discussions will conclude in January, after which Regents Harper, Allen and I will develop a summary to be presented to the full board. Following the full board discussion, I will deliver the board's response to the Academic Council and to ASuop, and will communicate to the Pacific community.

I'd like to wish all of you and your families a wonderful holiday season, and a safe and happy New Year.

Sincerely,

Kevin Huber '86
Chair, Board of Regents
