Standing Reports:
Current Agenda Items:
Innovation Initiative: Center for Digital Media Arts
Presented by Doherty a report to develop a Digital Media Center which would offer students a B. A. in Digital Media and Arts. Phillips explained the 5-year projected budget. Phillips stressed that the goal of this program is not to isolate it from any of our current courses, it is not to be a stand alone. Job growth in these fields are significant. Overall, this would be another student attraction into Pacific. There are a few concerns as to starting up the program, i.e. all three campuses participation, staffing, initial funding, etc. Also, concerned about the number of students that would enroll, 10-12 students for enrollment would be more ideal than the projected five students in the current report. Many questions were asked amongst the group. There were thoughts that this degree may be too small and not optimal for Pacific.
Math Program Review
Looking at offering courses every other year for Junior and Senior levels. This would relieve some of the pressures of staffing and go to a multi-year contract. Consolidate one ten-year track faculty position and one additional full time instructional non-tenure; not adding FTE's just changing from part time rolls to full time positions. Overall, we were depending too much on adjuncts and need to reduce or avoid hiring adjuncts. The focus is to strengthen and enhance the growing number of majors. Approximately saving $10K that will be redirected.
Program Review Recommendations: John Muir Center
Gilbertson commended the panel for their report and creativity of envisioning the future for the center. Bill Swaggerty, Director of the center was very enthusiastic about the report as well. Cox explained the refocus and clarify the vision for the center. Now we need to develop a strategic plan for FY08. COP will initiate and is responsible for, as well as, an advisory counsel along with others.
Program Review Handbook
Brodnick presented the Program Review Handbook. Brodnick provided history, philosophy and rationale, contents of the handbook, periodic review, content requirements and the support for the process. Budgetary issues were a concern and timeframe from the faculty and taking them away from their teachings, etc. Further discussions will occur at upcoming meetings.
Next meeting: Tuesday, April 17, 2007, 2 - 4 p.m. in the Community Conference Room.
Meeting adjourned at 4:03 p.m.
